Chapter Ten another interlude feel for lack of a better way to put it, out of place, the beat is dysfunctional and while Kendrick’s 16 bars and the fireside chat at the end make it bearable the beat just doesn’t go with the song right which throws it off from the rest of the album.
The Spiteful Chant the ninth track on the album with it’s royal sounding beat along with Kendrick super elegant flow and catchy hook make it one of the highlights of the album. The next song Poe Mans Dreams (His Vice) has another calm beat which Kendrick uses to detail many subjects such as his city life in Compton, Family, and his aspirations for his dream life. The second single from the album Ronald Regan Era (His Evils) opens with a sung intro refrencing both Sublime and The Who in under thirty seconds, the rest of the track deals with Kendrick’s life growing up in Compton, California and how he and his music was greatly affect by the gang violence of his city “Compton Crip n-ggas ain’t nothing to f-ck with, Bompton Pirus ain’t nothing to f-ck with, Compton Esé’s aint nothin’ to f-ck with, But they f-ck with me and bitch I love it”. Chapter 6 an interlude is just a mellow song where Kendrick sings to a calm beat with a spoken message (again by the fireside) in the middle hinting at the next track, nothing really important but it does flow with the rest of the album if listen to all together. Tammy’s Song (Her Evils) deals with a girl who is cheating on her man when he isn’t there for her like she has always been for him “”. No Make-Up (Her Vice) featuring Colin Munroe is a song again for the ladies which is about Kendricks views on women’s make-up which he describes as a way to hide a woman’s inscurities, Kendricks ryhmes again on this song are tight while the hook sung by Colin Munroe while different from many songs on the album fit in perfect to make it a great track. deals with a drug fueled night that Kendrick experienced with a ladywhere they become very intoxicated with nearly every drug imaginible, this song once again has a very calm beat and shows off Kendrick lightening quick flow which becomes even more impressive because during the song he manages to fit every drug that I’ve ever heard of (and some I had to look some up on Urban Dictionary) while retaining a constant scene to let the you know what him and this lady are feeling. Stewardess complimenting me on my nappy hair, If I can fuck her in front of all of these passengers, They’ll probably think I’m Osama, The plane emergency landed, it was an honor”, a fascinating concept indeed. The second song from the album Hol’ Up starts off with a swinging beat that is ideal to display Kendrick’s steller flow and classic rhymes, on the song which deals with many subjects K-Dot is always coming back or refrencing the main theme, a fantasy where he is a terrorist “I wrote this record while 30 thousand feet in the air The albums start off with with a dark a somber tone with what appearsto be people talking around a campfire after a quick introduction the beat drops to F-ck Your Ethnicity which quickly turns into a piano fuel instrumental with fast ryhmes from Kendrick which cover a wide range of topics dealing with race in society.
