Oh and you keep any progress (guns, gadgets) on your game from origin because youll simply login to your origin account even if you launch steam version. I bought hardline through origin and the download fails to initialize.

Hes saying No, you do not "need to buy the game again on steam to use steam's playtime". While classic Battlefield modes like Conquest remain intact, Battlefield Hardline features four new modes. To do so, you need to head to the installation folder of Battlefield Hardline and run the pbsvc.exe program to uninstall and remove Punkbusters current version.
